Translation memories and terminology databases

Critical tools to improve quality and cut translation costs

Translation memories

We use translation memories for all our projects. By no means does this involve a machine translation, but translations are stored in a file in real-time and can subsequently be applied again in the same file or in future translations.

The system checks if there is an existing translation for each unit to be translated. The translator then makes sure the translation is correct in its context and accepts said translation.

Advantages

Translation memories allow to lower the cost of the translation. A project analysis will show the number of units recovered in the memory. We then apply a reduced rate to the words they are made up of, which enables our customers to make significant savings. As translations are stored in the memory in real-time, units repeated in the ongoing project, as well as translations from previous projects are directly retrieved from the memory.

The use of translation memories guarantees the linguistic consistency required for the delivery of high-quality documents. What is more, several translators can work on the same project simultaneously and share a translation memory.

Terminology databases

Terminology databases are glossaries that work like translation memories. Translators are alerted in real-time whenever a word can be found in the database and the system displays the correct translation. This is a very useful tool that ensures respect for proprietary terminology.

This glossary will obviously grow during the partnership and will enable us to deliver documents that will increasingly meet your demands with respect to terminology.

Confidentiality

Translation memories and terminology databases are specific to each customer. In this way, we are able to respect each company’s proprietary terminology whilst complying with confidentiality rules.
